Meet the Class of 2020: Kevin Guerra

Cadet Guerra attended Warren Township High School in Gurnee, IL and plans on enlisting in the Navy and working as a cryptologic technician

Tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Kevin Guerra I was born in Belize on April 6th 2002 I came to America when I was 1 years old with my mom and my dad. My mom and dad are my biggest supporters and push me beyond anyone else has to accomplish what I want in life they’ve supported every decision I’ve made. While attending Warren Township High School in Gurnee, Illinois, I committed to 1 year of football my freshman year, 1 year on the wrestling team, and 4 years on the varsity track team. I came to shadow Sea Cadets when I was 12 years old but I was not prepared for what it had in store, I later came back when I was 14 and ready to stay committed.

I have two most memorable trainings bootcamp and MAA. Bootcamp was very tough no doubt, I don’t believe anyone is completely prepared for it until you get there as soon as you get on the bus its automatic yelling and maintaining military barings not everyone completely understands that though and those are the people you either wanna help out if there in your division or disregard and stay away from if not. I met so many people that I still keep in contact with today it’s a different kind of family you form when you experience tough situations with people you didn’t know you form a kind of bond that lasts for quite a while.

All cadets are required to go to boot camp if they plan on going anywhere in the program. Next, my other favorite training was MAA it was a law enforcement but oriented Some Field ops into the training like constant marching and scenarios that last from the point you get up to when you get ready to sleep after the Watch. MAA was also a really cool learning experience they taught us hand to hand combat maneuvers, how to disarm a person and we learned how the military would handle an active shooter scenario. I recommend the training to all cadets who are interested in some type of field ops training.

Where to now?

After high school, I plan on enlisting in the Navy and working as a cryptologic technician I’ve also been prepping for the ASVAB exam.
