ENS Jeffrey Janek, NSCC
Jeffrey R. Janek is the Commanding Officer of the Nine One One Division of the Sea Cadets and League Cadets. He started as an adult volunteer to learn more about the program alongside his kids. Originally from Fort Worth, TX, INST Janek has lived in Brazil and across 4 states in the USA. Jeffrey made his professional career as a Manufacturing Executive in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Biologics industries.
CO Janek's vision for the Division is to: "establish a core group of Adult Parent Volunteers in both Auxiliary roles and Officer roles, supplemented by USN active duty military personnel to provide an exciting environment for the Cadets to grow to their full potential in the program."
INST Annette Rodriguez, NSCC
INST Kevin Sisson, NSCC
INST Kevin Sisson has worked in the Information Technology field for 25 years in higher education, small business, and local government sectors. He has seen the incredible growth of technology in those fields and looks forward to sharing his IT knowledge with the cadets of Nine One One.
Kevin has previously volunteered with coaching teams in the First Lego League competition, The American Rocketry Challenge, and youth sports. He also brings a passion for sailing, hiking, camping, kayaking, mountain biking, scuba diving, travel, and aviation. Kevin Sea Cadets is an amazing opportunity for me to help serve the youth in our community.
INST Jason Rodriguez, NSCC
Jason Rodriguez joined Nine One One Division to help the unit grow and support his child - a league cadet. Jason is originally from The Bronx, NY but moved all over the United States during his 12 years in the military. He served as an enlisted Infantryman and Forward Observer, then commissioned as a Military Police Officer. He is a husband, a father of three boys, and is currently a Manufacturing Executive within multiple industries.
Jason's goal is to help to raise leaders of character so they will grow into responsible citizens for the future.
INST Kevin Harris, NSCC
INST Kathleen Root, NSCC
Kathleen Root is an active duty military for 9 years stationed at the Great lakes as a Navy Military Training Instructor.
When her son joined the program as a league cadet, she joined as a volunteer. Kathleen wanted to share her knowledge and experiences to inspire kids with similar interests.
INST Root's vision for the unit is: "to give the maximum ability and opportunities for the children and being able to give as much back to local communities. Shaping young people into community leaders!
INST Lena Burkut, NSCC
PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER
Lena Burkut attended a school of journalism in Russia and worked for several mass media outlets before moving to the United States. Finding the new home in Chicago, she started a family blog in 2010.
With over ten years of social media experience under her belt, she is well versed in a variety of social media networks.
A full-time working professional and a busy mom of three, INST Burkut joined the program as a Public Affairs Officer shortly after her son became a league cadet.
INST Jean Sophie, NSCC
Dr. Jean Sophie has been in the education field for almost 40 years serving as a high school business teacher, alternative high school instructor, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent for personnel in the state’s third-largest elementary district, and then as a Superintendent of Schools for the past twelve years. Dr. Sophie has a wealth of experience in both elementary and high school districts in Illinois.
In her career, Dr. Sophie has served on a state wellness committee, was President of both West Cook and Lake County Superintendents’ Associations, and was voted as the Lake County Superintendent of the Year in 2019 by her peers.
ENS Yildiz Janek, NSCC
Yildiz T. Janek started as an adult volunteer to learn more about the program and to spend more time with her two children.
Born in Germany, Yildiz has lived in Germany, Turkey, England, Brazil, and six US states. She is fluent in four languages and has her Bachelor's degree in Radio, Television, and Film.
INST Y. Janek is excited about the future of the Nine One One Division of the Sea Cadets, "We are bringing on excited new adult volunteers and cadets, so the program is growing. We are all here for the growth and development of the kids."
