Our August drill was all about connection, preparation, and getting our cadets ready for months ahead. We focused on welcoming our newest members, resizing uniforms, sharpening marching skills, and running a mock Physical Readiness Test (PRT) to set the baseline for future improvement.

Cadets shared stories from their summer trainings - lessons learned, memorable locations, and experiences that will serve them moving forward. It was inspiring to hear about the variety of advanced training opportunities they took part in around the country.

We were honored to welcome two special visitors: LTJG Nguyen, an engineering officer with the Seabees, USNSCC Chief Alumnus (Class of 2016, Nine One One Division), and ETC Mai, our local Navy Recruiter. They shared their personal journeys, offered encouragement, and gave insight into life in the Navy and beyond.

Marching refreshers are always nice. Knockout drills make it fun! New cadets received hands-on instruction in basics of formation and facing movements, while returning cadets worked to refine their marching as a unit. We also discussed scholarship opportunities including Patriots Pen for middle schoolers and Voices of Democracy for high school students. Both are sponsored through the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Lets not forget that our cadets are growing children and many have spurts over the summer, requiring re-sizing of uniforms. Instructor Keyser is on top of things making sure that our cadets have what they need to look their best and represent our unit with pride.

The order of business on Saturday was to get re-acclimated to monthly drills and routines, however, Sunday was an opportunity to re-acclimate to running, planks, and push-ups! Cadets participated in a mock PRT, which allowed them to set baselines for themselves.

Our four Chief Petty Officers gathered with Instructor Keyser and Midshipman Soule for a collaborative discussion on best practices moving forward. Each Chief was encouraged to share ideas and offer feedback. Everyone had a chance to learn from one another. The result? Fresh perspectives, stronger teamwork, and a united vision for the year ahead.

As always we extend a heartfelt thank you to Ms. Keyser, our Operations Officer. She always makes sure that our meals are tasty and nutritious and we want her to know how much she is appreciated.

Thank you to all adult volunteers who work hard to make drills a success AND help our cadets realize their potential. Their are lots of opportunities left this summer to leave your mark and to make a difference.

Thank you to all of the parents who ensure that their kids are able to fully participate in the Sea Cadet program. Your contribution does not go un-noticed. We're excited to carry this momentum forward into the September (camping) drill and beyond. Here's to a new year of drills!
