November 2024 Drill

The hands-on portion of this quarter's culinary curriculum is officially underway! Master Chief Wendy Crisafulli, USN (RET) and Chief Will Stanford, USN (RET) guided cadets through interactive lessons on health, wellness, and preparing healthy snacks.

Cadets were split into groups and introduced to basic knife skills and meal planning, with a fun and practical goal: creating fruit kabobs for chow. Under supervision, each group got the chance to chop fresh fruit and assemble kabobs, combining teamwork with a focus on precision and presentation.

It was a tasty and educational start to the culinary program, with cadets taking pride in their creations and learning skills they can use far beyond the kitchen!

Our New League Cadets were all smiles and excitement this month as they geared up for their first-ever seabag issue. It’s a big deal for these young leaders—it’s not just about getting uniforms and gear but taking that first step into their journey with us.

Seeing the cadets suit up for the first time was a proud moment. Each piece of gear they received represents responsibility, teamwork, and the values we’re here to instill. You could feel their energy and excitement as they tried everything on and got a glimpse of what being a cadet is all about.

A huge shoutout goes to Jeffrey Keyser, Jennifer Ruzicka, and Nico Genet for making it all happen. From organizing gear to helping cadets get the right fit, they made the whole day smooth, efficient, and even fun!

This is just the start for our New League Cadets, and we’re excited to see where their journey takes them. Thanks to everyone who made this moment special—it’s moments like these that set the tone for everything to come!

After marching practice with Chief Stanford, cadets took to the p-ways to give their boots some love. Attention to detail was the name of the game during this drill as cadets worked to ensure their boots were inspection-ready. With polish and elbow grease, they practiced the art of achieving a mirror shine—a skill that teaches patience, focus, and respect for uniform standards.

Saturday ended on a high note with Drone Club, led by Instructor Alex Burkut. Cadets explored drone mechanics, safety, and flight techniques before testing their skills in obstacle courses and precision maneuvers. Thanks to Alex’s guidance, the session was a perfect mix of fun, teamwork, and hands-on learning!

Sunday’s drill began with PRT makeups, where cadets showed grit and determination to meet fitness standards. From push-ups to timed runs, they pushed their limits, embracing discipline and accountability. Great work, cadets!

The culinary excitement continued as cadets learned to prepare fresh guacamole and salsa for taco bowls at chow. They practiced chopping, mixing, and seasoning techniques, bringing bold flavors to the table and building their confidence in the kitchen!

Instructor Jim Head led a practical and engaging presentation on kitchen and cooking safety, highlighting key techniques to prevent accidents and ensure cadets work efficiently and safely in the kitchen. He emphasized proper handling of knives, safe food prep practices, and how to avoid common kitchen hazards.

Sunday wrapped up with a productive session of Petty Officer Academy and SASP Team practice. Cadets focused on developing leadership skills and teamwork, refining their tactics and strategies in both individual and group settings. It was a fitting end to a day weekend of learning, growth, and preparation for what’s to come.
