October 2024 Drill

All hands reported to NTC Great Lakes for a routine drill weekend. The day kicked off with uniform inspections and the indoctrination of new League Cadets, followed by gear issue and classroom training. LTJG Proa led training on sexual harassment and fraternization, ensuring all cadets were aware of how it applies to NSCC events and protocol. Chief Stanford took the deck to introduce this quarter’s culinary curriculum, highlighting its connection to health, wellness, and PRT readiness. MCPO Crisafuli gave an engaging presentation on culinary professions in the US Navy and Coast Guard and watched a video on what it takes to prepare 17,000 meals a day on a naval aircraft carrier.

Cadence echoed as cadets marched with precision to and from the USS White Hat—the SWESC's “ship in a bottle.” Special thanks to BM1 Treanor, USN for a top-notch lecture and tour that brought man-overboard procedures, as well as shipboard operations and safety to life. Hoo-yah!

With PRT season among us, Cadets showed real grit! They pushed through their tests, showing real dedication and teamwork. Most admirable was their commitment to motivating each other to see their push-ups, planks, and run through until the end.

Bravo Zulu to Cadets Blancas and Davis-Wooten on their promotions. Also, congratulations to Cadets, Lacey, Proa, Soulé, and Stovall on their recognition by the Veterans Network Committee of Northern Illinois for their Honor Flight participation.

Change of Command - Stepping down as Commanding Officer, LTJG Lena Burkut, was recognized for her outstanding and dedicated leadership to Division 9-1-1. She will continue to play a pivotal role as Public Affairs Officer.  LTJG Brian Proa has assumed position as Commanding Officer and ENS Janette Gilmartin has assumed the position of Executive Officer, effective immediately.
